SovCore Split: User & Security Verification Guide
Technical instructions for the 100% provider-blind, local-first utility designed to secure cryptographic payloads using Shamir's Secret Sharing (SSS).
Introduction
Welcome to SovCore Split. This utility is a 100% provider-blind, local-first tool designed to secure your most sensitive digital assets—such as master passwords, cryptographic private keys, recovery phrases, or confidential legal clauses—using Shamir's Secret Sharing (SSS).
Split replaces the vulnerable concept of a "trusted third party" with mathematical certainty. By breaking a secret into multiple encrypted digital shards, you ensure that no single person (and no single server) can compromise your data.
1. The Core Concept: Threshold Cryptography (k-of-n)
Instead of keeping a master password in a password manager or on a piece of paper, Split allows you to distribute custody safely. You decide two parameters:
- Total Shares (n):How many total pieces you want to create.
- Threshold (k):The minimum number of pieces required to reconstruct the original secret.
The Security Guarantee
If you configure a 3-of-5 split, any 3 shards combined will instantly rebuild your secret. However, if an attacker steals 1 or 2 shards, they gain exactly zero information. Without meeting the strict mathematical threshold, the data remains complete digital dust.
2. Step-by-Step: How to Split a Secret
Step 1: Secure Your Environment
Before entering data, take advantage of SovCore's client-side architecture. Open your browser, navigate to split.sovcore.eu, and disconnect your device from the internet (turn off Wi-Fi or enable Airplane Mode). The application will continue to run flawlessly.
Step 2: Ingest the Payload
On the dashboard, select Create a Split. Type or paste your sensitive data into the secure text field (Maximum payload: 50 Megabytes). Click Proceed.
Step 3: Configure Your Thresholds
Use the sliders to define your custody parameters: Choose your Total Shares (e.g., 5 partners) and Choose your Threshold required for recovery (e.g., 3 partners must agree to unlock).
Step 4: Export the Shards
Click Compute Secure Split. The application's WebAssembly engine will process the math locally in milliseconds.
Download your individual .share files and distribute these files to your trusted stakeholders via separate channels (e.g., one via secure email, one on a physical USB drive, one via Signal).
3. Step-by-Step: How to Recover a Secret
When an event occurs that requires unlocking your asset (such as an M&A audit, emergency server recovery, or legal filing), gather your stakeholders.
- Navigate to
split.sovcore.eu(you can safely disconnect from the internet again). - Select Recover a Secret from the main dashboard.
- Upload your
.sharefiles one by one. - The system will display a live counter showing your progress (e.g., 2 of 3 valid shares uploaded).
The moment the threshold (k) is met, your original text payload will instantly reassemble on your screen. Copy your recovered secret and close the tab to completely wipe the local environment.
4. Built-in "In-Flight" Security Features
shredderThe Emergency Tab-Shred
If you switch browser tabs or minimize the window, the system triggers an automatic panic sequence, zeroing all operational variables instantly to prevent shoulder-surfing.
terminalProcess-Level Isolation
The tool runs inside an isolated OS-level process cage, blocking malicious browser extensions in neighboring tabs from inspecting or reading your data.
5. The 60-Second "Trust-Free" Verification Test
We do not ask you to trust our promises. We invite you to audit the "Physics of Privacy" yourself with this simple experiment:
Conclusion: Not a single byte of your data could have left your machine, proving that the server hosting this tool is completely blind to your secrets.
